2017 Legislative Session Summary

The 99th Regular Session of the Missouri Legislature officially ended Friday, May 12 at 6 p.m. We are happy to report there was no legislation passed that had a negative impact on the Public School and Education Employee Retirement Systems of Missouri (PSRS/PEERS).

Governor Appoints Charles "Chuck" Bryant to PSRS/PEERS Board of Trustees

Governor Eric Greitens appointed Chuck Bryant of Creve Coeur, Missouri, to the Public School and Education Employee Retirement Systems of Missouri (PSRS/PEERS) Board of Trustees on March 17, 2017. His appointment was confirmed by the Senate on April 13, 2017.

April 2017 Board Meeting Summary

On April 10, 2017, the Budget and Audit Committee of the Public School and Education Employee Retirement Systems of Missouri (PSRS/PEERS) Board of Trustees convened at 8:30 a.m. in the Retirement System offices in Jefferson City, MO, with the regular session of the Board of Trustees meeting following at 10 a.m. Minutes from this meeting will not be approved until the April Board meeting, therefore a summary of the meeting is being provided.

Benefit Recipients: Important End of Year Documents on the Way in January

Be on the lookout for your 2017 annual Benefit Statement and 2016 IRS-Form 1099-R, likely the two most important pieces of mail you get from us all year. Both will mail in late January and contain important information about your PSRS/PEERS benefit.

DESE Proposed Rule Change Would Eliminate Issuance of New Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) Certificates

Under a rule change proposed by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), the department would no longer issue Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) certificates starting August 1, 2017.The proposed rule, which is in a comment period for the remainder of November, could change or be withdrawn before becoming final.

Contribution Rates Remain Constant for 2017-2018 School Year

At the October 24, 2016 Public School and Education Employee Retirement Systems of Missouri (PSRS/PEERS) Board of Trustees' meeting, the Board voted to maintain the current contribution rates for the 2017-2018 school year. This action was based on the recommendation of the Systems' actuary, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

PSRS/PEERS Selects New Director of Employer Services

Omar Davis, of Columbia, MO, has been named director of employer services for the Public School and Education Employee Retirement Systems of Missouri (PSRS/PEERS) effective September 26, 2016. He replaces Jeff Russler, who recently retired.

At their June 14, 2016 meeting, the Board of Trustees of the Public School and Education Employee Retirement Systems of Missouri (PSRS/PEERS) made several revisions to the Systems' Funding Policies.
