PSRS/PEERS Executive Director M. Steve Yoakum Announces December Retirement
After 43 years in the pension industry and 22 years serving as the executive director of the Public School and Education Employee Retirement Systems of Missouri (PSRS/PEERS), M. Steve Yoakum announced today he plans to retire, effective December 1, 2020.
PSRS/PEERS Receives Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting
PSRS/PEERS was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the Systems’ fiscal year 2019 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.
DESE Announces Governor’s Approval of Their Request to Temporarily Waive Work Limits for Retirees During Current State of Emergency
On August 7, 2020 the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) announced that in order to help alleviate the potential shortage of substitute teachers and/or school support staff members during the 2020-2021 school year, Governor Parson approved their request to temporarily waive portions of the state statutes that limit the number of hours worked and salary earned by retirees while working for a covered employer in a temporary position.

Private equity was the best performing asset class for public pensions, and PSRS/PEERS’ private equity program had the 4th highest return out of 176 public pension plans surveyed.

The June 9, 2020 meeting of the Budget and Audit Committee of the Public School and Education Employee Retirement Systems of Missouri (PSRS/PEERS) Board of Trustees convened at 8 a.m. in the Retirement System offices in Jefferson City, MO, with the regular session of the Board of Trustees meeting following at 10 a.m.
PSRS/PEERS Welcomes Melinda Moss and Kyle Collins to Board of Trustees
PSRS/PEERS congratulates Dr. Melinda Moss and Dr. Kyle Collins on their recent election to the Board of Trustees. Both are active PSRS members who will serve four-year terms as Trustees effective July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2024.

Investment Update: COVID-19, the Economy, the Markets and PSRS/PEERS
PSRS and PEERS have weathered many challenging investment environments in the last 75 years, including the stock market crash of 1987, the bursting of the dot-com bubble in the early 2000’s, the 9/11 attacks in 2001 and the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) in 2007 and 2008. However, as we move further into the coronavirus pandemic, it is evident that this event is different.
Don't Forget to Vote! Board of Trustees Election Ballots Mail April 23
Two positions on the PSRS/PEERS Board of Trustees are up for election. PSRS/PEERS utilizes an outside election services company, which will mail all eligible PSRS/PEERS members and retirees a voting ballot on April 23.
