Spring 2025 Legislative Update
This week is spring break for the Missouri Legislature. State legislators have filed more than 2,300 bills and resolutions since this session began on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. PSRS/PEERS is tracking more than 60 bills that could potentially impact the Systems and our members.
2025 Missouri Legislative Session Begins
The 2025 Missouri Legislative Session began January 8, and as always, PSRS/PEERS will actively monitor any bills that could potentially affect the Systems or our members.
2024 Legislative Session Ends: Multiple Provisions Signed into Law Benefiting PSRS/PEERS Members
Ultimately, no legislation passed that negatively impacts PSRS/PEERS or our members.
Spring 2024 Legislative Update
More than 2,500 bills and resolutions have been filed for the 2024 legislative session, which began on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. PSRS/PEERS is currently tracking more than 100 bills.
2023 Legislative Session Ends: Multiple Provisions Sent to the Governor’s Desk that Impact PSRS/PEERS
During the 2023 Missouri legislative session that began Wednesday January 4, 2023, the General Assembly introduced more than 2,300 bills. PSRS/PEERS closely monitored over 250 of those bills and completed more than 45 fiscal impact requests.
Legislation Restoring 2.55% Benefit Factor, Increasing Working After Retirement Limits One Step Closer to Becoming Law
As of May 9, legislation impacting PSRS/PEERS members was passed by both the Missouri House and Senate.
Legislative Update
Since the General Assembly began the 2023 legislative session on Wednesday January 4, 2023, more than 2,300 bills have been filed. PSRS/PEERS is currently tracking 256 pieces of legislation. The 2023 legislative session ends on Friday May 12.
Work Limits Waived on Post-Retirement Substitute Teaching from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2025
On July 1, 2022, Governor Mike Parson signed legislation that waives the working after retirement limits on part-time or temporary-substitute work performed by PSRS/PEERS retirees as substitute teachers for covered employers or third-party providers between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2025.
Legislature Passes Bill Regarding Work Limits Waived on Post-Retirement Substitute Teaching; Bill Awaits Governor’s Signature
On May 12, 2022 the Missouri legislature passed Senate Bill 681, which includes a provision that waives the working after retirement limits on part-time or temporary-substitute work performed by PSRS/PEERS retirees as substitute teachers for covered employers or third-party providers.
PSRS/PEERS Welcomes Michael Moorefield as Director of Legislation and Policy
Moorefield replaces Maria Walden, who left PSRS/PEERS in January to take the position of Missouri Retired Teachers Association (MRTA) Executive Director.
