Dr. Aaron Zalis, Chair
Dr. Aaron Zalis is serving his third term on the PSRS/PEERS Board of Trustees. Dr. Zalis is currently serving as Superintendent for Rolla Public Schools. He previously served as Deputy Superintendent for Human Resources and Support Services. He has been a part of the Rolla district’s administration since 1994, also serving as Director of Human Resources and Assistant Principal of Rolla Middle School.
During his time at Rolla Public Schools, Dr. Zalis has developed and implemented a performance-based evaluation process for district teachers and administrators, and oversees issues related to district transportation, food service, facility construction, planning, maintenance and improvements. His many responsibilities include assisting with mentoring programs and district professional development initiatives, and oversight of the district’s health insurance program.
He has served as president of the Missouri Association of School Administrators (MASA) South Central Region as well as that organization’s vice president and Secretary/Treasurer, MSAPAC representative and the newly formed MASA ethics committee. Dr. Zalis is a member of the Missouri Association of School Business Administrators, Missouri State Teachers Association and Rolla Certified Teachers Association, and is a past member of the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals.
Dedicated to community service, he is also a member of the City of Rolla Comprehensive Planning Advisory Committee, and is active in many community organizations including the Kiwanis Club, Rolla Optimist Club, Board of Directors for Sports Incorporated of Rolla and the Phelps County United Way Board of Directors.
He holds a Doctor of Education Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Saint Louis University; an Education Specialist Degree in Superintendency from Northwest Missouri State University; a Master of Arts in Art Education; a Bachelor of Science in Education from Truman University; and a Bachelor of Arts in Commercial Art and Design from Culver-Stockton College.
Dr. Zalis has received several prestigious awards for his work in education. He was named the Assistant Principal of the Year by the South Central Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals; received the 2001-2002 Missouri Best Practice Award for Teacher Recruitment and Retention through SUCCESSLINK, and the National Scholarship in Educational Leadership in Doctoral Studies from the Scottish Rite.
