EMERS 3.55 Has Been Released

EMERS 3.55 has been released and contains updated contributions rates for the 2010-2011 school year.  It also contains the necessary changes needed to implement the upcoming Social Security changes for PSRS members.  If you have a 64 bit operating system please contact your Employer Services Representative, installation of the new release will require a cd installation package.

Due to the upcoming Social Security changes for some PSRS members, a new Plan Code has been added.  Currently, when reporting compensation, including employer paid medical insurance premiums, for PSRS members, you use Plan Code “P” to signify a PSRS member.  You will continue to report compensation, including employer paid medical insurance premiums, for members NOT subject to Social Security with a Plan Code “P”.  Starting with the 2010-11 school year, when reporting compensation, including employer paid medical insurance premiums, that IS subject to Social Security for a PSRS member, you will need to use Plan Code “S”.  You need to make sure this additional plan code information is included in your payroll reporting software.  The new EMERS Record Layout is available online

To verify that you have the latest version of EMERS installed, from the Main EMERS Wizard, click on “Help” in the drop down menu, and then click on “About”.  It should download the next time you transmit data, and should read “Version 3.55”.  If you do not have Version 3.55 installed, try the “Transfer-Receive” command in EMERS and then check your version again.  If you still do not have the new version of EMERS, contact your ESR.

Note:  2009-2010 earnings may be affected.  Any payrolls you run on or after July 1, 2010 may be subject to the new interpretation by Social Security.  If you pay an employee who is required to remit to Social Security on or after July 1, 2010, then by state law, the member must remit 2/3’s the normal PSRS contribution rate even if the payroll is for the 2009-10 school year (9.00% for 2009-10).
If you have questions, please contact your Employer Services Representative.
